$4,000

Land transfer tax rebate

  • You're 18 or older and will live in the home within 9 months of buying it.
  • Neither you nor your spouse has ever owned a home, anywhere in the world, while you were spouses.
  • Your lawyer usually claims it when the deal closes, so it comes off what you pay on closing day.
  • On a home up to $368,000 the tax is fully covered. Above that, the $4,000 comes off the bill.

Our land transfer tax calculator shows your exact number with the rebate.

Rules and amounts change. Confirm with your lender, accountant or lawyer.

  • Up to $8,000 a year and $40,000 in total, and unused room can carry forward a year.
  • Contributions are deductible like an RRSP. A qualifying withdrawal for a first home is tax free.
  • You can use it together with the RRSP Home Buyers' Plan for the same purchase.

Your bank or advisor opens the account. We'll show you what that money buys in London.

Rules and amounts change. Confirm with your lender, accountant or lawyer.

  • You need a signed agreement to buy or build a home before you withdraw.

Your bank handles the withdrawal. We'll help you time it with your offer and closing.
